Nature By Design is based out of Halifax, Nova Scotia. We are a family based business (husband & wife team) that bring you a unique set of skills, formal training and work experiences that allow us to create truly pragmatic, as well as visually pleasing Landscape Design solutions. While proficient in multiple styles, our main design style takes its cues from the clean lines and geometric shapes of Midcentury Modern Architecture. The floor-to-ceiling windows synonymous with this era emphasized a connection with nature, which largely embodying our ethos at Nature By Design. We like to use elevation changes, light/shadow, and other natural or structural divisions to create useable, practical spaces where a client’s lifestyle can blend seamlessly from indoor to outdoor spaces. We focus on grasses, evergreens, and perennials, with a preference for native plant species and local sources, to create spaces that are easier to maintain, better for the surrounding local ecosystem, and beneficial to the local economy.
We offer both consulting and project management through the construction phase of a landscape project; however, we do not offer landscaping construction or maintenance services. The Atlantic Region has many excellent landscaping and maintenance companies to choose from for this aspect of your landscape project. We are happy to discuss some key things to look for in a contractor and to work with whoever you choose, should you decide to engage us for project management.

Scott Inman
LANDSCAPE DESIGN & PROJECT MANAGEMENT
MPlan, B.Tech LA, LAT, NCSO
Prairie born & bred, but happily enjoying the East Coast life since 2018, Scott has first hand experience in nearly all the growing climates this country has to offer!
With over a decade deep in the hands-on side of construction, and a term serving in the Canadian Military, Scott brought a wealth of practical knowledge to his training and work in Landscape Architecture.
In addition to degrees in Landscape Architecture & Urban Planning, Scott mentored under an award-winning Landscape Designer in Edmonton, AB, and obtained a variety of work experience including at a multidisciplinary design firm, Apartment REIT, and Municipal Planning Office.
Nature By Design is the culmination of this unique skillset and experience.

Ilona Inman
CLIENT SERVICES & ADMINISTRATION
B.A Psych
Ilona grew up in Nova Scotia, then spent the requisite 10-15 years away before being pulled back to the siren song of the East Coast in 2019. Ilona’s “time away” was spent serving in the Canadian Military.
With over two decades in Civil & Military Aviation, Ilona brings precision and professionalism to the support side of Nature by Design.
Ilona also brings her education and interest in Psychology and Human Factors to the design table - how we interact with our outdoor spaces impacts our mental and physical wellbeing.

Ok, ok, ok… You got us… Juno will not be answering your calls. But, she’s the arguably the most photogenic of the whole team, so…
But more seriously - we wanted you to know that at Nature By Design we consider all the factors that will make a Landscape Design a truly successful solution. Including your 4-legged family members.
Juno is a hound in the city, with long legs and a property with no practical fencing option. Of course we designed a specific landscape design solution for her! (ps. ask us about tick reduction options for your outdoor space…)
